Varda Space Industries was cofounded by Will Bruey and Delian Asparouhov in 2020 to commercialize the decades of research on the ISS + Skylab in biopharmaceutical production, and shift to mass-scale manufacturing. By hitching rides on SpaceX's reusable rockets and building Varda's own fully autonomous manufacturing satellites and low-cost re-entry vehicles, Varda is able to manufacture biopharmaceuticals in space using a purely commercial supply chain. The company is on the precipice of signing several of the world's top 20 biopharma as customers, many of whom have previously done research on the ISS but lacked a path to scale.

In addition to their commercial work, Varda was recently awarded a $60m STRATFI program from the US Air Force to utilize their low-cost re-entry vehicles as a hypersonic testbed. Hypersonic boost-glide missiles have recently become a national security priority due to China and Russia's recent flight tests, but the US has no avenue for regular hypersonic.
